Minton Sparks - Penal Farms, Tobacco Barns and Hollers:
The Emotional Landscape of the Southern Family
Join Minton Sparks as she fuses music, poetry and an intoxicating gift for storytelling into word pictures of the Rural South, putting you squarely in the middle of the people and places she knows like the back of her hand. Her wildly original stories are provocative, funny, heartbreakingly powerful, and unforgettable. Marshall Chapman of Garden and Gun described it this way: "Sparks walks out on stage looking like some woman who took a wrong turn from a Ladies Auxiliary meeting in rural Tennessee circa 1950, clutching a bone pocketbook containing god-only-knows what. Mints? A change purse? A pearl-handled pistol? An empty tube of lipstick? A prescription for Valium? Who knows?"
Grammy nominated Sparks travels widely and has been featured on NPR’s All Things
Considered, BBC’s Bob Harris Show, and in Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. Sparks will be joined by world-class guitarist John Jackson, who has appeared on Broadway and toured with Sparks, Shelby Lynne, and Bob Dylan.
"[She] soulfully marries the Southern storytelling tradition with the strains of old-time music for a hybrid that is all her own." —Chicago Sun Times |

Bill Harley…and Friends! - Some Assembly Required
It’s late—do you know where your brain is? Come lose it here. Bill Harley brings his musical pals—Keith Munslow on keyboards, Steve Bigelow on bass, and Johnny Cote on drums—to the late night cabaret for an evening of narrative and musical mayhem. Traditional material given no respect, original story and song shamelessly presented, and improvised material developed on the spot are mixed together in a potpourri, a gallimaufry, a succotash of narrative and notes. Their objective—to keep you awake, make you laugh and change the way you look at things.
A Grammy Award-winning artist, musician, storyteller and prolific author, Bill Harley is a regular commentator for NPR’s All Things Considered and is a Storytelling Circle of Excellence Award recipient. Keith Munslow, Steve Bigelow, and Johnny Cote are 3/4 of the hot Providence blues band, the Superchief Trio. (Do the math!) Munslow is also a regular accomplice of Harley on various musical and theatrical forays.
"Harley delivers an uninhibited performance with wry sense of humor and has a love of life we can all share…" —The Los Angeles Times |
